We should note first of all that there is a distinction made between film stock gauges (8 mm, 16 mm, 35 mm, 70 mm, etc.) and projection formats, which refer to the proportions of the image and are expressed in ratios (the ratio of the width of an image to its height, for example 1.33:1, 1.5:1, 2.2:1).
