The Photographer as a Film Character: From Filming to Retouching, Visual Strategies for Showing the other Side of Images as They Are Made - Text 3

At the other end of the twentieth century, in 1992, in a completely different context and on another continent, Assi Dayan in turn borrowed the name of a film manufacturer to tell the story of Life According to Agfa. The film opens on a young woman photographer talking on the telephone with her boss at the bar where she works while she hangs up photographs with clothes pegs on a clothesline running through her apartment. In the background we see other black-and-white photographs tacked to the wall in a film which is also in very grainy black and white. A slow left to right pan accompanies her as she works. She hangs up the telephone and exits the frame from the right as the camera begins moving in the opposite direction, showing a view of the city of Tel Aviv through the window.
