The Moving Camera and Films on Shelves - Text 7
In fact the MPL’s success, simultaneous with the dissemination of moving images of animals taken with the Akeley camera, invites us to correlate the significance of these two things. This interpretative path suggests that we view the collecting of reels of films shot with the Akeley camera as an important condition of possibility for legitimizing the MPL as a pioneering film archive which copied, preserved and circulated this material, in addition to seeing it as valorizing the AMNH as an institution.
