It was thus out of a personal situation that the Akeley camera was born – the swivelling camera designed by and for Carl Akeley which he wished to deploy between his body and that of the animal he encountered. Akeley found an increasing number of uses for the camera on his own expeditions and, devoting himself to the task of creating a mobile depiction of a mobile animal, he created a holistic perspective on the latter which had hitherto been impossible.[2]
