In 2017, Palmer Luckey, the founder of Oculus, commented that “this is one of the things I’m experimenting with... virtual reality implants that are able to do stimulation into the nervous system to provide a sense of touch and to allow you to move around in virtual reality without actually moving.”[1] The company Neuralink, founded in 2016 by Elon Musk, is currently developing The Link, an implant of more than 1,000 electrodes which, placed in the region of the motor cortex on each side of the brain, makes it possible to map very precisely the activity of certain motor neurons associated with the movements of the arms and hands and, in return, to control a computer or a telephone remotely by sheer willpower.
