Similar masks have also been conceived for augmented reality, with a variety of technologies for following movement (GPS, gyroscopes, accelerometers, infrared cameras, transmitters and receivers, etc.) such as Vuzix Wrap 920AR (Vuzix, 2010), Epson Moverio BT-100 (Epson, 2012), Google Glass (Google, 2013), ODG R7 (ODG, 2015), Hololens (Microsoft, 2016), ODG R8 and R9 (ODG, 2017), Magic Leap One (Magic Leap, 2018) and Apple Glasses (Apple, in development). Facebook is not being left behind, with the recent release of its Ray-Ban Stories (Ray-Ban and Facebook, 2021), eyeglasses which enable one only to take photographs and videos, but which are part of Facebook’s plan to develop augmented reality.
Apart from masks and controllers, research is continuing into haptic clothing which would make possible haptic feedback and/or motion capture, such as the Woojer Vest (Woojer, 2017), the TactSuit (bHaptics, 2017) and the Teslasuit (Teslasuit, 2018). Some companies are attempting to take the experience beyond the sense of sight, hearing and touch by experimenting with devices for scents, such as INHALE (OVR [Olfactory Virtual Reality] Technology, 2020).
