3D Modelling - Text 1
This section of the parcours examines digital animation in a general manner and the question of 3D modelling in particular. The question is whether the development of production methods based on the capabilities of software developed in the digital era has led to a break with traditional animation techniques. More precisely, automation and modulation will be compared to the production methods of stop-motion animation.
Anatomy of the 3D Puppet
As described by Richard Rickitt, 3D modelling consists in constructing a model, which can take several forms, for creating the illusion of movement when manipulated.[1] This model functions like a puppet, meaning an object whose limbs can be articulated and fixed in the desired position. A tiger is shown in the 3D model below. This tiger was constructed digitally in such a way that it can be articulated.
