Technical Aspects of Live Transmission - Text 2
Every opera house which films its operas in order to transmit them to movie theatres must make technical choices in keeping with the aesthetics and modes of production they envision. Some such opera houses, such as the Metropolitan Opera, take charge of every element of the production and transmission chain. Others delegate segments, in whole or in part, to intermediary companies. The Opéra de Paris, for example, works with partner television networks, which set institutional funding in motion, and entrust the capturing to a specialized company, Fraprod. This company delegates the sending of the satellite signal to a branch of the company Orange, called Globesat, which sends the transmission feed to the company Ymagis, which is in charge of the technical connection with exhibitors. In each case, we are in the presence of a number of standardized operations carried out simultaneously with the show being filmed.
