Skateboarding and Its Attachment to Video Cameras - Text 5

In an article in the magazine Skateboarder, we learn from a filmer and skateboarder more about his connection to the camera. Fred Mortagne states that before the arrival of the VX1000, skateboard films did not have as much artistic value, and even that they were of mediocre quality. The skateboarder Jeremy Wray argues that the dynamic of progress brought by the arrival of the camera was beneficial for the sport, as it revealed its exploits, something which could inspire future generations.[6]

That said, using a VX1000 today to produce a skateboard video appears to be more of an aesthetic decision and/or a symbolic gesture than a practical choice. In fact these cameras break, and are becoming increasingly difficult to repair. In addition, if one compares this camera to the most recent GoPro or another recent camera which can be used to record this sport, one quickly sees that the VX1000 is no longer used for the same reasons.
