Cinema - Text 9
Andrew Bowser – who wrote, directed and played the lead role in the film – wore a harness around his torso which held a GoPro HERO2 camera pointing at him from some 40 cm in front of his face throughout the film’s 90-minute run-time. As in Wearable Urban Routine, this strange camera position – an exo-centric point of view – produces an image in which the body wearing the camera is immobilized in the centre of the frame, regardless of its movements during the shooting. Unlike Xiaowen Zhu’s use of a rear-mounted camera, the frontal position of the action camera in Worm is even more disorienting, because we see only the protagonist’s face fixed in the centre of the frame as the world moves around and behind him.
