Colour Overflows the Screen: Christian Lebrat - Text 4
For Trama (1980), Lebrat’s method involved making a material support to be filmed image by image. This series of six plates, made up of twenty-four coloured vertical bands, he called “trames” (screens). The number of bands corresponded to the standard number of images recorded or projected per second. Following one other in a pre-established order, each screen showed several repetitions of a series of six colours representing the colour spectrum (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, violet). While shooting, it was thus possible to frame six strips per photogram and then to shift one band per image.
