And in 1957, soon before the famous Sensorama was conceived, Morton Heilig filed a patent application for a “stereoscopic-television apparatus for individual use.” This more complex headset device had a case and was multi-sensory. It not only showed images but also played sounds using earphones and even conveyed scents through air ducts positioned under the nose:
