The Mechanisms of Accommodation - Text 2
This soft lens is quite fascinating for anyone with some knowledge of applied optics. Isotropic and transparent (except in the case of cataracts), it is inhomogeneous, because its refractive index is not the same at every point, and varies according to the deformation of its structure. Apart from its morphological features, it is worth emphasizing these extraordinary properties of accommodation, with respect to both its rapidity and its adaptability to different levels of light.
Illustrations
It is exceptionally rare for an untrained eye to focus on the areas which become increasingly blurry, except when they alone remain on the screen, as in Kieslowski’s film Bleu.
