Seen as a “dictator” by the rest of the crew when laying down his law during the earliest sound film productions, the sound engineer was thus initially pushed far from the set, truly forming a part of the crew only in the 1950s. From that date, the sound engineer became a trade with various branches: working on-set; in an auditorium (mixing, post-synchronization); on dubbing; etc.
